2024 Product of the Year

TAMKO Titan XT was named the 2024 Product of the Year in the Home Protection category, based on a survey of over 40,000 consumers conducted by Kantar, one of the world's leading market research firms. This isn't an industry insider award — it's recognition from the homeowners who actually use these products. The Product of the Year award validates what contractors like us already know: Titan XT is the real deal.

As a TAMKO Diamond Elite contractor, Sands Roofing is among the select group of installers certified to offer Titan XT with the full manufacturer warranty backing. When you choose Titan XT installed by Sands Roofing, you're getting an award-winning product backed by an award-winning installation team.

What Makes Titan XT Different

AnchorLock™ Reinforcement

A proprietary poly-fabric layer embedded in the nailing zone that gives each nail an anchor point, locking shingles to the deck and dramatically reducing blow-off risk. This technology is the reason Titan XT earned its 160 MPH wind warranty — one of the highest in the industry.

Rapid Fire Zone™ Nailing Area

Titan XT’s nailing zone is five times larger than standard shingles, making installation faster and more precise. A larger nailing zone means more tolerance for nail placement, which reduces the risk of installation errors and improves overall wind performance.

Class 3 Impact Resistance

Tested and rated for Class 3 impact resistance, Titan XT provides superior protection against hail and falling debris. For South Carolina homeowners in storm-prone areas, this rating can also qualify you for insurance premium discounts.

Advanced Fusion™ Sealants

TAMKO’s proprietary sealant technology activates even in cooler temperatures, bonding shingles to each other and to the roof deck faster and more aggressively than standard sealants. This means your roof reaches full wind protection sooner after installation.

UltraMAX Weathering™ Layer

A high-performance asphalt layer engineered to resist cracking, curling, and premature deterioration from UV exposure and temperature cycling. South Carolina’s hot summers and temperature swings are hard on roofing materials — UltraMAX Weathering is built to handle it.

Apex Color Technology™

Proprietary granule blends and an advanced color application process create deeper color variation and more natural-looking shadowlines across the roof surface. The result is a roof that looks richer and more dimensional than standard architectural shingles.

Titan XT FAQ

TAMKO warrants that Titan XT shingles, when properly installed, will resist wind speeds up to 160 MPH for 15 years from the date of installation. This is one of the highest wind warranties in the residential roofing industry. For South Carolina homeowners who deal with tropical storms, hurricanes, and severe thunderstorms, this level of wind protection provides significant peace of mind.
If you live in a storm-prone area — and most of the South Carolina Midlands qualifies — the answer is usually yes. Titan XT's 160 MPH wind rating, Class 3 impact resistance, and advanced sealant technology provide meaningfully better protection against the hail, wind, and storm damage that's common in our region. The Class 3 impact rating can also qualify you for insurance premium discounts, which can offset the price difference over time. That said, Heritage is still a solid, dependable shingle. We'll help you weigh the options during your consultation.
Both are premium architectural shingles, but they take different approaches to performance. Titan XT features AnchorLock reinforcement in the nailing zone (a woven poly-fabric that locks nails to the deck), while Timberline HDZ uses a wider nailing zone with its StrikeZone technology. Titan XT carries a 160 MPH wind warranty vs. Timberline HDZ's 130 MPH. Titan XT also holds Class 3 impact resistance as standard. As a TAMKO Diamond Elite contractor, we install Titan XT exclusively and can speak in detail about its real-world performance on homes throughout the Columbia area.
Titan XT comes with a Limited Lifetime Warranty from TAMKO. In practical terms, a properly installed Titan XT roof should provide 30+ years of performance, depending on weather exposure, ventilation, and maintenance. Our Diamond Elite installation standards and the strength of the product itself give you the best possible foundation for a long-lasting roof. Learn more about our warranty coverage.
Many insurance companies in South Carolina offer premium discounts for roofs with Class 3 or Class 4 impact resistance ratings. Titan XT's Class 3 rating may qualify you for these credits. We recommend contacting your insurance provider before your roof replacement to ask about impact-resistant roofing discounts — the savings can be significant over the life of the roof.
